Emergency Feeding Task Force Update: SNAP Distribution and Community Food Resources

Del Norte County, CA — The Emergency Feeding Task Force (EFTF) continues to coordinate community food-access efforts in response to recent SNAP (CalFresh) disruptions.

SNAP/CalFresh Update

Public Health reports that CalFresh (SNAP) recipients are starting to see benefits on their cards. Residents can expect to receive full November benefits this month. The state is still working on distribution details, and the EFTF will share updates as more information becomes available.

Community Response Efforts

The Del Norte County Office of Emergency Services (OES) has activated a Food Resources Hotline (707-464-0915) to provide up-to-date information about food distributions, volunteer opportunities, and donations.

Our Food Resources Guide has now been translated into Spanish, expanding accessibility for more community members.  Please note this guide has been updated to reflect regular distribution hours.

A weekly calendar has been published for next week. With the expected distribution of SNAP/CalFresh benefits, pantry services will return to regular hours next week, following this week’s expanded service schedule.

The Del Norte Unified School District (DNUSD) will distribute a 5-day Thanksgiving Break meal-bags (including breakfast and lunch) for students during the Thanksgiving break. Distribution sites include the Family Resource Center of the Redwoods (FRC) and additional locations in Klamath and Smith River — with a full schedule forthcoming.

About the Emergency Feeding Task Force

The Emergency Feeding Task Force is a collaboration of local agencies, tribes, and community organizations working to maintain food access during disruptions and emergencies. The task force is facilitated by the Del Norte & Tribal Lands Community Food Council, in partnership with DNUSD Nutrition Services, the FRC Food Bank, DHHS, and OES and other community partners.

The DNATL Community Food Council is working collaboratively to create a local food system that provides access to healthy, culturally preferred food to all families in Del Norte and Tribal Lands (DNATL).

We acknowledge that the Del Norte County community lives on the unceded ancestral territory of Tolowa Dee-ni Nation, the Yurok Tribe, Elk Valley and Resighini Rancherias.

We honor the critical importance of the land and water to the Indigenous peoples of California today, and that the existence of tribal communities and preservation of traditional Indigenous ways of life depend on secure and permanent land bases and the right of self-determination (ACLU of Northern California).
