April Newsletter

Happy Spring everyone! As the weather is getting nicer and the garden work is becoming plentiful, the DNATL CFC team wishes you a great season! There is a lot of upcoming news, so please feel free to sit back and read through what is going on in the community.

Thank you for attending our 4th Annual

Seed & Plant Exchange!

We had roughly 800 people attend our Seed & Plant exchange last month! We couldn’t have done it without our amazing staff, volunteers, donors, and partners. Thank you to those who helped make this event happen. We will see you all again for our 5th annual exchange in March 2027!

Make sure to check out the Seed Library at the Crescent City Library, if you are still looking for seeds! Main Library - Crescent City Branch

Honoring Mike Young

On behalf of the Del Norte and Tribal Lands Community Food Council, we would like to take a moment to honor and remember Mike Young, Del Norte Healthcare District board member, whose passing we mourn deeply.

Mike was a dedicated partner in the development of the Gather & Grow Food Hub project, working alongside our organization since 2022. His steady guidance, knowledge, and commitment played a critical role in moving this vision forward. He was instrumental in preparing the documents necessary for our Use Permit submission—work that laid the foundation for where we are today.

Beyond that, Mike supported our organization during a pivotal transition, helping the Community Food Council become an independent non-profit in 2024 and making it possible for us to move into 510 E Washington this year. His willingness to show up, problem-solve, and support our team did not go unnoticed. He was someone we could count on.

We are immensely grateful for Mike’s contributions, not only to this project but to the broader community he served with care and dedication. His impact will be lasting. We are deeply saddened by this loss.

As we continue the work of bringing the Gather & Grow Food Hub to life, we do so with gratitude for Mike’s role in helping make it possible. We look forward to honoring his legacy when the project is complete.
