Food Forest

 

Overview

The Taa-‘at-dvn Chee-ne’ Tetlh-tvm’ Food Forest is a collaborative project between Del Norte & Tribal Lands Community Food Council and College of the Redwoods – Del Norte Campus that serves as a living learning space for regenerative agriculture, permaculture, and sustainable food production. It is used for school field trips, classes, workshops, and community programs that support hands-on learning, composting, and increased local food access.

 

Purpose

To demonstrate and teach regenerative agriculture, permaculture, and sustainable gardening practices while strengthening local food access, education, and community connection.

  • Our Actions

    • Grow and provide fresh greens, herbs, berries, and vegetables for community use

    • Support hands-on learning in gardening, composting, and tool use for community members of all ages

    • Install irrigation systems across raised garden beds to improve growing capacity

    • Re-establish and maintain composting systems using recovered food waste

    • Divert organic waste from landfills through local composting partnerships

    • Improve soil health through distribution of compost, soil, and mulch

    • Host the annual Harvest Festival and one location of Food & Farm Summer Camp

    • Provide paid internships and learning opportunities for College of the Redwoods and Del Norte High School students

    • Support ongoing field trips, workshops, and community education programs
